    Yes it is 32-bit, but that refers to the processor, not the MB.  
Freebsd will not run on a 286, but a 386 YES!  For more info go to 
www.freebsd.org  and since it's a laptop go to www.jp.freebsd.org/PAO 
for additional info on laptops.
