I compiled the kernel with debugger option, but I could not access anything with that kernel running, given that the freeze happened while waiting for the scsi drives to settle in the boot sequence. With the -v option, i could see that it prints the wait, then sends what i think was a reset, something about ahc 0, 0, -1,-1 and freezes there and I must power cycle the machine. Thanks Brian L.
