I was getting a lot of these messages on my system a while ago, 2940U2W controller and Seagate Cheetah drives, but running 3.0 CURRENT.
It seemed like the U2W cable was receiving interference from the computers PSU.
When I routed the cable more carefully, the problem disappeared.

Just my 0x02 cents worth.
