Thanks, sometimes it just takes another pair of eyes to see the problem. It is seeing the AWE stuff now, but after a "./MAKEDEV snd0" my KDE toys (X11Amp and the MIDI player) still aren't working. IIRC a "cat something.wav > /dev/dsp0" was producing some output though, so it might just be a symlink issue or something. I'll muck with it some more tonight.
