cvsup (or csup, available from ports) can update /usr/src
from any version to any version. If you try to update it
to 6.2 on a 5.3 system - then, yes, you'll succeed in
rebuilding world and kernel, and installing them.

Please refer to the last parts of /usr/src/UPDATING and/or
Handbook for further info.
