I have a Inspirion 7500 with 25 gig disk and had the same problem until
they removed the 1024 cyl limit in 4.1.

I installed 4.1 on the last 3 gig of the 25 gig drive and everything
works great. ( Accept X won't display on the LCD only an xternal
monitor. I even tryed the config file on dell's website but I wasn't
able to get the LCD to render the X session. )
