We need to upgrade and change our server hardware and I'm looking for new high-performance server platforms for P4 XEON systems. I have two mainboards in my focus, one is the Intel SHG2 and the other one is the SuperMicro SUPER P4DL6. The SuperMicro seems to be a very nice mainboard, but when I read the technical specs, I realized, that it is marked as DDR200-only main PCB, the Intel SHG2 is said to be capable to utilize DDR266 memories. In one of the famoust German computer magazines (c't) I read a test and they tested the SuperMicro with PC2100-2033 memory, so this implies that the SuperMicro also utilize DDR266 memory? Does anyone out here has experiences with both mainboards using FreeBSD 4.6-STABLE or FreeBSD 4.6.1? We have an AMI Enterprise 1600 RAID controller (PCI 64/66) that should be swapped over to the new machine in spe, so I need some tips and hints. In the past, FreeBSD has developed into a 'incredible' stability when using SCSI and SMP, I hope I can participate from this stability when changing our hardware 'on the fly'. Thanks a lot for your help in advance, Oliver -- MfG O.
