My favorite book on C is "The C Programming Language", by Kernigan and
Ritchie, Second Edition.  For a fact, one of the most concise and complete
references for the C language.

If you also require a text on the standard library, I would suggest "The C
Standard Library", by P.J. Plauder.  Not as many examples as I would have
liked, however it presents the actual relevant parts of the ANSI
standard at the beginning of each chapter.


I paid US$40, retail, for each book.
