I assume you are talking about while logged in as root.  I also assume
these are syslog type messages. 

You can edit /etc/syslog.conf to turn them off, or not log in as root.

What messages, BTW?  If you are generating a LOT of console traffic from
syslog, something might need to be set up differently.
