Windows 95 write-protects the boot sector to protect from boot >sector viruses. You have to use DOS ( < v7) to change it. To protect from boot sector viruses other than Win95, you mean. (Can you tell I'm writing right from an experience of having a Win95 install wipe out DOS/Win3.1 startup files located in an entirely separate partition and replace them with its own? Talk about predatory. Ugh.)
