Hello!

(sorry for bad english!)

I'm a sys/netadmin of few FreeBSD machines and also if I can't call
myself a "unix guru" I'm not a newbie :-)

However, I'm seeing a strange load on one of mine FreeBSD 4.0-stable
servers and I can't explain it.

these are the first lines of "top" output :

last pid: 64984; load averages: 1.00, 1.00, 1.00 up 100+04:47:18
16:42:54
27 processes: 1 running, 26 sleeping
CPU states: 0.0% user, 0.0% nice, 0.0% system, 0.0% interrupt,
100% idle
Mem: 7784K Active, 82M Inact, 19M Wired, 3824K Cache, 22M Buf, 12M Free
Swap: 256M Total, 256M Free

I don't understand why the load averages are all 1.00 when the CPU is
100% idle!

The loads are 1.00 from few minutes and the same for CPU utilization %.

Is this a correct behavior or what ?
My machine is really idle looking at "top" and "ps ax" outputs, so why
loads are 1.00 ?

I checked also network traffic and others profiling systems ( like
"netstat -i", "netstat -a" and "systat -vmstat") but all seems calm.

I hope this is not a silly question! :-)

Thanks in advance !
