I have heard (but not confirmed, since I don't run it) that there is a 
new patch for StarOffice that fixes this problem.  Apparently that problem
was not specific to FreeBSD.  

You many want to check the archives of the freebsd-emulation list to make 
sure I am remembering correctly. ;-)
