When I stop tcpdump the interface comes back again (on 6.0-beta5). I've seen a similar behaviour with 'ifconfig alias' and a em card. Everytime I added a IP the kernel would warn me that the interface was down then up (that was on 5.4-stable). I found it a bit curious.. -- Giovanni P. Tirloni http://tirloni.blogspot.com
