Snapshots are generated every now and then - you can download them via FTP.

However, CVSup is not really that complicated, and in case you really want
something "up-to-date" in terms of hours and not days, CVSup is probably
the best way. Basically, setting up CVSup for the first time may be a bit
tricky, but I guess that including the installation, a first time user
should be able to start from scratch and fetch their first sources in about
an hour. Of course, once you've done it the first time, it will be easier
on subsequent updates ;-)
