Snapshots are generated every now and then - you can download them via FTP. However, CVSup is not really that complicated, and in case you really want something "up-to-date" in terms of hours and not days, CVSup is probably the best way. Basically, setting up CVSup for the first time may be a bit tricky, but I guess that including the installation, a first time user should be able to start from scratch and fetch their first sources in about an hour.
