Well, at least you only sent one copy of the the text. > I was thinking about picking up a 1200 dpi flatbed scanner for use with a > FreeBSD machine and wanted to check with the group to see if anyone had some > advice as to which one I should purchase. Any advice is appreciated. Price > isn't as much of a consideration as everything working correctly. Scanner support is via SANE, which is in the ports tree. You need 1) a scanner that their software supports and 2) has an access mechanism in FreeBSD. To find out about #1, check the sane web site at . Parallel port scanners supported by SANE generally work, but people complain about them. SCSI scanners supported by SANE also generally work, but I'm not happy about having something that sluggish on my system bus. USB scanner support is newer and hence more prone to problems. I haven't tried one yet, but probably will next time I need to buy a scanner. http://www.mired.org/home/mwm/ Independent WWW/Perforce/FreeBSD/Unix consultant, email for more information.
