Hello All,

I noticed in the archives on 11/25/99 that abs4@york.ac.uk was having
the same
problems booting his AS800 from floppies as I have been with my
DecServer 3300
(white box version). The 10/31/99 Snap4.0 floppies gave me the same SRM
errors:

IDE command not successfully terminated
ST0 = 40
Missing address mark
IDE bad sector encountered or read unsuccessful

The 11/11/99 Snap4.0 floppies gave me the same SRM errors, however the
loader
actually loads and attempts to boot the kernel and then halts:

Entering kernel at 0xfffffc00003245e0...

halted CPU 0

halt code = 2
kernel stack not valid halt
PC = fffffc00004ac70c
>>>

Taking this one step further to confirm that this wasn't actually a
problem with the
floppies, I ran a minimum installation on an AS200 (Mustang), and then
physically
installed the drive into the 3300. No errors booting the loader and all
commands
at the loader level seem to work fine. The loader will successfully
load a kernel
from the drive, but once control is passed to the kernel the system
halts:

/kernel data=0x294608+0x22cb0 syms=[0x8+0x36f60+0x8+0x2699e]
Entering kernel at 0xfffffc00003258c0...

halted CPU 0

halt code = 2
kernel stack not valid halt
PC = fffffc00004ff62c
>>>

Hoping that someone can help me get this running, as I think it will
make a very
nice FreeBsd server.  Thanks

Brett Bump (bbump@enetis.net)
