I'm surprised that you are having any problems like that with the Intel cards. There aren't any known bugs in the driver, so I'd look in the direction of the hardware, perhaps even the cables. How are the machines connected? Are they connected through a hub, a switch, or perhaps a cross-over cable? Which version of FreeBSD is involved?
