This could be a network problem. Here, from mailhub, a FreeBSD box running
3.1 we get performance as high as is possible with 10Mb Ethernet when
doing NFS. This drops to about 90kB/s when doing writes over TCP (ftp,
Samba, etc). This is with a 3Com Etherlink XL. Go figure.
