I can't reproduce your problem on my beaglebone armv6hf but I have a different
issue:

portupgrade -a
[Reading data from pkg(8) ... - 67 packages found - done]
[Updating the portsdb <format:bdb_btree> in /usr/ports ... - 24771 port entries
found ** Stale lock file was found. Removed.
/usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/2.1/armv6-freebsd11/bdb.so: Undefined symbol
"ruby_safe_level_4_warning"
