The Linksys WDT11 PC Card to PCI adapters use the PLX bridge chip which gives just enough of the PC Card bus to allow for a class of cards to work. I've used different wireless cards with different vendors PLX boards before. However, you have to be careful. The supported voltages can be different. Many of these cards have special versions of the pccard that come with them that are, for example, 3.3V cards. So you have careful, but with careful qualification of the components it can be done.
