I think you may have something here.... although the system hasn't experienced any other straneness, I did add additional memory since I upgraded to 4.5. Here's another hint.... suspecting that there was something wrong with the original build, I decided to build a new kernel and, as luck would have it, it failed too (fatal signal error 11) which would point to a memory issue.
