The "so ****ing what" is that printing just doesn't work in this situation. You have to *physically* remove CUPS from being linked into samba, or BSD printing won't work. If I don't use CUPS, but have the CUPS libs on this box for some other reason (such as KDE), then samba will link to it, and then BSD printing will fail. It is clearly a samba bug that BSD printing fails when CUPS is present, but the configuration option is a FreeBSD port buglet.
