Hi Gail,

Your best bet to get started is to read the FreeBSD Handbook, located at 
http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/

There is an excellent chapter on installing FreeBSD 
(http://www.freebsd.org/handbook/install.html) which should give you all
the information you need.
