That's right. There's no way for Vinum to determine if a partition which doesn't belong to it is correct or not. Right from the beginning, though, the man page said: DRIVE LAYOUT CONSIDERATIONS vinum drives are currently BSD disk partitions. They must be of type vinum in order to avoid overwriting file systems.
