Lee:

apachectl will be in the bin directory under wherever you installed apache.
By default this will be /usr/local/apache, so unless for some unusual reason
you choose to modify your PATH to include /usr/local/apache/bin you will
need to specify the full pathname. i.e. you should issue the command like
this:

/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl start
