Well, i've discovered this: windows doesn't disconnect prematurely. FreeBSD does, using both userland ppp and kernel ppp. Even KPPP gets kicked off often. The windows connection wasn't anything special setup by the ISP, just a new connection with the right number plugged in. I've tried the scripts for linux i DL'ed from my ISP, and that includes an 'mtu 1006' in the ppp-options file. Seems that doesn't make a difference. What i don't understand is why this only happens with FreeBSD? It happens with both ISP's, both ppp's. I've tried a myriad of modem settings, but the results are inconsistent. Just when i think i found the solution, the problem recurs. The log only shows 'carrier lost'. -jonathon To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
