 Recently upgraded to 4.6.2, and had the same problem, when it rebooted, it 
 looked for kernel, and kernel.old, where as on the drive they are 
 kernel.GENERIC and kernel.prev, so, i'm figuring there is something 
 different between software and distro....the fix still applies of either 
 renaming, or modifying /boot/defaults/loader.conf
