The answer given is to toggle the altphys flag. I have found that in FreeBSD release 2.0 this flag is unknown to ifconfig. I have a 16-bit Etherlink-II (aka. 3c503) and had to use the ``link2'' flag to get the card to use the AUI port rather than the BNC port. Also the FAQ (Revision: $Id: FreeBSD.FAQ,v 1.1 1995/03/21 20:19:13 jkh Exp $) still lists the older news groups (comp.os.386bsd.*), rather than the comp.unix.bsd.freebsd* ones.
