hi, i am currently trying to update a PII-computer from 3.0 RELEASE to 3.3 RELEASE. make buildworld and make installworld worked (with a minor problem trying to install a manpage that obviously wasn't there) but having forgotten nik clayton's "making the world" tutorial and having been without internet connection at the time of the installation, i didn't cleanly update /etc and /dev then. i compiled and installed a new kernel without problems, but the machine won't boot it, claiming there is an "Invalid format!". i can still boot the old 3.0 kernel and run the machine with it. now that i have finished all the other tasks mentioned in the tutorial, i'd like to install the new kernel - but the machine beeing networked and curently an hour to drive from here, i don't want it to hang up while trying to boot the new kernel. were the problems i encountered with the 3.3 kernel due to my lack of precision making the world, or are there other pitfalls i should be aware of? thank you! cecile -- GameCat neuce@informatik.uni-muenchen.de To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
