On my UK USR Sportster 28.8 :
DIP 1 UP DTR Normal
DOWN DTR Override
DIP 2 UP Verbal result codes
DOWN Numeric result codes
DIP 3 UP Surpress result codes
DOWN Display result codes
DIP 4 UP Echo offline commands
DOWN No echo, offline commands
DIP 5 UP Auto answer
DOWN Surpress auto answer
DIP 6 UP Carrier detect normal
DOWN Carrier detect override
DIP 7 UP Load NVRAM defaults
DOWN Load factory defaults
DIP 8 UP Dumb mode
DOWN Smart mode
From 1-8 mine is set with (probably the defaults) :
up,up,down,up,down,up,up,down
