I'm building with '-O2 -pipe -march=pentium-m'. linking: The linking problems remain. Removing gcj41 from my system would break all programs build since the 20060310 snapshot. For not needing to run 'ldconfig' I have added the following entries to my libmap.conf: # fix broken gcc41 linking libgcc_s.so.1 gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libgcc_s.so libmudflapth.so.0 gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libmudflapth.so libssp.so.0 gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libssp.so libmudflap.so.0 gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libmudflap.so libobjc.so.1 gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libobjc.so libstdc++.so.6 gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libstdc++.so libgcj.so.7 gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libgcj.so libgcc_s.so gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libgcc_s.so libmudflapth.so gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libmudflapth.so libssp.so gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libssp.so libmudflap.so gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libmudflap.so libobjc.so gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libobjc.so libstdc++.so gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libstdc++.so libgcj.so gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1/libgcj.so To use gcc41 for building software I still have to run # ldconfig -m /usr/local/lib/gcc/i386-portbld-freebsd6.1/4.1.1
