Dump is used on machine A periodically. Restore is used on machine B to obtain clone of machine A at the time of the dump. Both machines are running FreeBSD 2.2.8 installed from the same CDs. In the process of "restore"ing from a "dump"ed tape some directories are restored with the following uid:gid 4294967:4294967 find / -nouser on machine B displays these directories. find / -nouser on machine A displays nothing. ls -l on machine A displays what looks to be correct user/group names A characteristic of the directories is that they would normally belong to uid:gid 65532:65532 or 65533:65533 Another characteristic of the directories is that they are either found on /usr or /var each of which is mounted seperately. No damage is observed on /. The damage is always the same, independent of the tape used, the day of the backup, etc... I do not know how to resolve this problem, Rick Saltzman To Unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@FreeBSD.org with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
