hi all, I've been using FreeBSD-2.1-Release with GUS MAX and vat-4.0b2 a bit. my problem is that I have no control over the speaker volume or mic gain. I've gotten around it to this point by using headphones that have a volume control, and never using a microphone. I'd like to make this setup a bit more usable if possible. from the rah and mark tinguely web pages I've seen that vmix is supposed to handle this, but I'm having no luck. with vmix the only effect I can get with the mic is off or maximum distortion, and absolutely no effect on the speaker volume. and when I try to connect the vat -U to the /tmp/vmixsock then vat just locks up. I'd be quite happy with a correctly functioning half duplex setup, but am willing to try the GUS duplex drivers if that's my only hope. anyone have a suggestion on my vmix problems and connecting to vat? here's my system state: OS: FreeBSD 2.1.0-RELEASE Config File: device gus0 at isa? port 0x230 irq 12 drq 1 flags 0x3 vector gusintr Bootup: gus0 at 0x230 irq 12 drq 1 flags 0x3 on isa gus0: <Gravis UltraSound MAX (512k)> gus0: <GUS MAX (CS4231)> /dev/sndstat: VoxWare Sound Driver:3.0-beta-950506 (Sun Feb 5 14:38:12 EST 1995 freebsd-hackers@freefall.cdrom.com) Config options: ffffffff Installed drivers: Type 4: Gravis Ultrasound Card config: Gravis Ultrasound at 0x230 irq 12 drq 1 Audio devices: 0: Gravis UltraSound 1: Gravis UltraSound - read only 2: GUS MAX (CS4231) Synth devices: 0: Gravis UltraSound MAX (512k) Midi devices: 0: Gravis UltraSound Midi Timers: 0: System Timer 1: OPL-3/GUS Timer Mixers: 0: Gravis Ultrasound 1: AD1848/CS4248/CS4231 /dev: lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 6 Dec 2 16:07 /dev/audio@ -> audio1 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 4 Dec 2 16:09 /dev/audio0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 20 Dec 2 15:37 /dev/audio1 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 36 May 24 1996 /dev/audio2 lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 9 Dec 2 16:07 /dev/dsp@ -> /dev/dsp2 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 3 Dec 2 15:56 /dev/dsp0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 19 May 24 1996 /dev/dsp1 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 35 May 24 1996 /dev/dsp2 lrwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 5 Dec 2 16:07 /dev/dspW@ -> dspW0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 5 May 24 1996 /dev/dspW0 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 21 May 24 1996 /dev/dspW1 crw-rw-rw- 1 root wheel 30, 37 May 24 1996 /dev/dspW2 thanks for any help! danny
