Subject: help with vmix speaker volume / mic gain control?

hi all,

I've been using FreeBSD-2.1-Release with GUS MAX and vat-4.0b2 a bit. my
problem is that I have no control over the speaker volume or mic gain.
I've gotten around it to this point by using headphones that have a
volume control, and never using a microphone. I'd like to make this
setup a bit more usable if possible.

from the rah and mark tinguely web pages I've seen that vmix is supposed
to handle this, but I'm having no luck. with vmix the only effect I can
get with the mic is off or maximum distortion, and absolutely no effect
on the speaker volume. and when I try to connect the vat -U to the
/tmp/vmixsock then vat just locks up.

I'd be quite happy with a correctly functioning half duplex setup, but
am willing to try the GUS duplex drivers if that's my only hope.

anyone have a suggestion on my vmix problems and connecting to vat?
