 I would be happy to test out these aha2940 fixs before the
"official" release if someone just points me to a GENERIC kernel.

 Ummm,  I'm a little slow on the up-take this morning.   Does that
mean that the up-coming (aka 2.2.1) release will be on the CDROM; or
the older, now missing (aka 2.2.0) release will be on the CDROM?

 If the 2.2.1-RELEASE is on the CDROM, is there time remaining to test 
the aha2940 corrections?
