In userconfig, all devices are removed that are not actually installed. Then all remaining devices are verified (including the modem; which is on COM1, irq 4, (3f8). After setting every- thing else up and at the point of entry for the ppp negotiation, I enter 'term' and then issue a command to the modem - for the sake of simplicity 'at'. Then there is a variety of things that will happen; none of which is the response "OK". Either the command is not echoed to the terminal, the command is echoed, or it is echoed one character behind the actual keystroke.
