I have an Adaptec AHA-2940-UW and on page 2-9 of the manual it says the 
maximum number of tagged commands is 32, yet I get messages:
    (da0:ahc0:0:0:0:0):tagged openings now 64

What is the relationship between tagged openings and tagged commands?
