If it worked for you in linux you had IDE-SCSI emulation enabled which doesn't exist in FreeBSD. There is a native ATAPI CD burning tool called burncd that is installed on your system. Learn to use it :) . I did. Its pretty good. You need to make iso images before you burn so get mkisofs from the ports collection and learn how to use it too.
