I have no experience with IDE RAID controllers, but I believe you are normally stuck booting from an IDE drive if you have a system with mixed IDE ? SCSI drives. However, I know you said the BIOS seems to see the IDE RAID controller as a SCSI device (which I found surprising). Anyway, just a thought.
