And Matlab is widely used by Engineering schoo= ls over the world, and octave is a drop in replacement for Matlab. But do you want it considered educational? Would you consider Mathematica to be educational? If math/octave-froge-ltfat is considered educational, then you could make a case that all the octave* ports are educational, as well as maxima, wxmaxima, sage, and a bunch of other computer algebra systems.
