 I don't know if it has any relation to your problem, but I when
 I switch my laptop from Windows 98SE to FreeBSD, I have to turn
 the power off before booting FreeBSD or the network card won't
 initialize properly.  Do you see this problem if you power down
 completely before booting FreeBSD?
 
 I suppose this is probably a flaw in FreeBSD.  Maybe I should
 submit a problem report for it.
