There are a few reasons I feel this is a good thing. 1. Consistency. All Makefiles use base system commands in the same way. 2. Replace-ability. It is trivial to fix ports if executables change location. 3. Security. By having macros that point to fully-qualified paths, we eliminate the chance or trojan horses in people's paths.
