(Brian@worldcontrol.com had answered similarly, but was unsure of 
whether it would help, or just hose my system completely.  ;^)
It worked like a charm.  I can now boot FreeBSD from the HD, and
BeOS from the floppy, which is acceptable until I can confer with
the BeOS support team.  Thank you very much.
