This is my personal suggestion: 1. mv /usr/X11R6 /usr/X11R6.old 2. install XFree86-4 3. tweak /etc/make.conf to indicate XFree86-4 4. rebuild X ports that you use. 5. If all works, rm -f /usr/X11R6.old.
