Cuz it was, it really froze, I mean the Siberia kinda freeze, no error msg, no droping in debugger, nothing. At the beginning it seemed random so I started to undo the last changes I made. So I made a plentyfull bunch of kernels, taking out one line at a time and deinstalled a few 3rd party ports. And finally, I found out that it didn't help. Bugger. The last change I didn't undo was the cvsupdate. So I deleted all of my src and obj and cvsup tag=RELENG_5_2. And sure as getting out of Siberia to move in Chernobyl, things went back to normal (execpt for sound, which I lost, and some other details that makes downgrading so much fun). I think I can pinpoint 2 problems. One is between atapicd and my DVD-RW, which is being discussed in another email by someone else in this list. The other is GEOM. First, there were no more "GEOM: create disk ad0 dp=..." at boot time. Then, at shutdown, the syncer was taking much more time and tries then it usually takes. Also, especially for my GBDE partition, whenever the "writing to disks" buffers were being very used, ice cube it went and much inconsistencies were detected at boot, even failing to background the fsck. I don't have much more details then that as it wouldn't core dump, nor go in debugging or anything. But I'll try to give as much details needed if asked so. Here is the usual: - dmesg after downgrading Timecounter "i8254" frequency 1193182 Hz quality 0 CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) (1094.15-MHz 686-class CPU) Origin = "AuthenticAMD" Id = 0x6a0 Stepping = 0 Features=0x383fbff AMD Features=0xc0400000 real memory = 536805376 (511 MB) avail memory = 515952640 (492 MB) Pentium Pro MTRR support enabled npx0: [FAST] npx0: on motherboard npx0: INT 16 interface pcibios: BIOS version 2.10 Using $PIR table, 11 entries at 0xc00fcda0 pcib0: at pcibus 0 on motherboard pci0: on pcib0 pci0: at device 0.1 (no driver attached) pci0: at device 0.2 (no driver attached) pci0: at device 0.3 (no driver attached) pci0: at device 0.4 (no driver attached) pci0: at device 0.5 (no driver attached) isab0: at device 1.0 on pci0 isa0: on isab0 pci0: at device 1.1 (no driver attached) pci0: at device 2.0 (no driver attached) pci0: at device 2.1 (no driver attached) pci0: at device 2.2 (no driver attached) pcib1: at device 8.0 on pci0 pci1: on pcib1 pci_cfgintr: 1:7 INTA BIOS irq 10 pci_cfgintr: 1:7 INTB BIOS irq 5 pci_cfgintr: 1:9 INTA BIOS irq 11 pci1: at device 7.0 (no driver attached) pci1: at device 7.2 (no driver attached) ed0: port 0xd800-0xd81f irq 11 at device 9.0 on pci1 ed0: address 00:c0:a8:50:e2:f6, type NE2000 (16 bit) atapci0: port 0xf000-0xf00f at device 9.0 on pci0 ata0: at 0x1f0 irq 14 on atapci0 ata0: [MPSAFE] ata1: at 0x170 irq 15 on atapci0 ata1: [MPSAFE] pcib2: at device 30.0 on pci0 pci2: on pcib2 pci_cfgintr: 0:30 INTA routed to irq 10 pcib2: slot 0 INTA is routed to irq 10 pci2: at device 0.0 (no driver attached) orm0:
