you probably forgot to configure it. by default, it will use IMAP, which indeed wil timeout, since I doubt yahoo mail is accessible this way. try: echo yourpassword | fetchmail -c -p pop3 yourpopserver -u yourself ('-c will just check whether you have mail or not).
