After installing freebsd 4.6 and trying to install some ports sometimes fatal traps occured during the compiling process. Later I started compiling my kernel and another fatal trap ocurred, then i rebooted and compiled the kernel and installed it again and fortunately no problems occurred. I've already checked if my RAM is wrecked with memtest but it did not find any errors. I've collected some info about some of the traps: (4.6-RELEASE) Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: Fatal trap 9: general protection fault while in kernel mode Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc01e8622 Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: stack pointer = 0x10:0xcde91ebc Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: frame pointer = 0x10:0xcde91ed0 Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xffff f, type 0x1b Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: processor eflags = resume, IOPL = 0 Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: current process = 13089 (sed) Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: interrupt mask = net tty bio cam Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: trap number = 9 Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: panic: general protection fault Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: syncing disks... 34 10 10 2 2 2 2 2 2 2 13 Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: done Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: Uptime: 2m14s Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: Automatic reboot in 15 seconds - press a key on the console to abort Jul 11 20:33:54 subway /kernel: Rebooting... another one: (4.6-STABLE) Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: Fatal trap 12: page fault while in kernel mode Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: fault virtual address = 0x1002b Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: fault code = supervisor read, page not present Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: instruction pointer = 0x8:0xc024b56b Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: stack pointer = 0x10:0xce038e64 Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: frame pointer = 0x10:0xce038e68 Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: code segment = base 0x0, limit 0xfffff, type 0x1b Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: = DPL 0, pres 1, def32 1, gran 1 Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: processor eflags = interrupt enabled, resume, IOPL = 0 Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: current process = 7739 (cc1) Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: interrupt mask = net tty bio cam Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: trap number = 12 Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: panic: page fault Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: syncing disks... 49 28 28 28 28 28 28 28 29 26 26 26 26 26 26 26 29 Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: done Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: Uptime: 4m32s Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: Automatic reboot in 15 seconds - press a key on the console to abort Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: --> Press a key on the console to reboot, Jul 12 20:29:47 subway /kernel: --> or switch off the system now.
