for the function that is supposedly miscompiled. I don't know how to
produce a simple test case because of a lack of C++ knowledge, but
maybe someone else does.

However, this appears either not to be a new bug, or not a GCC bug at all,
because Jasper Jongmans got it to happen after compiling jikes with
GCC 2.95.3 as well.
