Most motherboards come with two onboard controllers these days. Regarding sound cards, you can indeed attach a disk to them -- I have one attached to my SB16. Getting back to the original poster's question -- are you sure that the floppy drives are on an IDE controller? That would be very unusual; generally they have their own controller. Check the cable, it should look different to the IDE one. You might have another IDE controller that you don't know about :) Maybe check your BIOS setup screens and see how many hard drives it will let you configure.
