 Ok, I've confirmed with others that were having the same problem that
 something was messed up with either the compiler, libs, or something.=20
 I wasn't able to figure out what the problem was, but a new world fixed
 it.  Since this isn't a problem w/ this port, feel free to close this
 PR.
 
 I still think using the system's 'patch' makes more sense for this port.
 (see the patch I posted earlier)
