It is smaller megabyte wise (albeit not so many bells and whistles) than kde, and has a smaller footprint. Most importantly, it hasn't crashed since I installed it a few weeks ago. KDE used to crash regularly. xfce mentions gnome compatability, and I've been wondering just what gnome does for you. I plan to install it when I have some free time (yeah, right).
